Aromatherapy

The art and practice of using essential oils extracted from aromatic plants and herbs to restore or enhance health, beauty and well being . . . aromatherapy.

This ancient practice can be traced back to 3,500 B.C., used by the Greeks, Romans, and ancient Egyptians. Historically, fragrant oils were used for bathing, massage, and embalming the dead. A more modern use of aromatherapy began in early 1900 with the French chemist Rene Maurice Gattefosse. He started the therapeutic uses of essential oils.

The fragrances of essential oils interact with the tiny olfactory nerves located in the roof of the inner nose; the nerves transmit to the part of the brain called the limbic system. The limbic system is a set of brain structures that support a variety of functions, including our emotions, behaviors, long-term memories, and olfaction. For this reason, essential oils have a powerful effect on our moods and general state of mind.

Aromatherapy can be used in a many ease ways, like baths, inhalation, and massage. There is an extensive variety in oils and depending on your choices they can be enjoyed for relieve of tension and stress, to invigorate, for the treatment of colds, influenza, or sinus problems. Many essential oils are used in body care products, either for their delicious scents or therapeutically for a large variety of skin conditions.

Essential oils are very powerful and concentrated; there are only a few that can be applied directly to the skin and, therefore, carrier oils are necessary for topical application of most essential oils.

At Chi Time, we use essential oils during sessions and we create custom blends for your particular needs. We use only therapeutic grade oils, either organic or created from non-sprayed, sustainable, wild-harvested plants.   Aromatherapy essential oils leave no toxic build up in the body.
